  • RE: Justin Timberlake – Girlfriend (Unreleased Solo Version)!!

I like the bridge and Pharrell adlibs on this version!

I remember there’s a video somewhere with JT and the tunes. N*Sync come in the studio and JT’s like “look at this song we did” and he plays it to the rest of the band and then they add their parts.

Can anyone find it? I saw it on a tv show a long time ago

So... who is Chad and Pharrell in the studio with..

    Straight from Chad...

“The Neptunes have been working together on Letters to my Godfather, Lil Uzi Vert and Blink 182 , Miley Cyrus, Dua Lipa, Jay Z, Charlie Wilson and lots more to come... The Neptunes have been working steadily since the top of the year, almost exclusively.”

On his off time Chad has also been working with artist solo (Col3trane, X Ambassadors) songs to come (Chad will also be listed a real featured artist for the first time). Also Smino, Denzel Curry, Dram, Lido, Romil from Brockhampton.

I’ll write more about this stuff soon and get him to reveal a bit more when we do a full article together. I know he and his team won’t mind the above stuff being shared for now

  • RE: What makes an artist go into/out of their prime?

@Dookie Yeah I get what you’re saying but my point is his first prime period he was a producer, he wasn’t an artist - and as a producer he and chad were having waaaaaay more hits than the 2nd time around (35% of radio). It wasn’t even possible to buy a pharrell album in 2003.

In regards to the rest of what you were saying - the money and stuff and more recognisable as an artist now. Yeah that’s what I was saying above so I agree for sure

Yup that’s why nobody is writing what it is. Chill.

@Pushamalicious-T i don’t think Pharrell is a good example. Because his initial prime wasn’t really “Pharrell” it was ‘the Neptunes’ and the sound and style was totally different.

I feel like the Pharrell solo era (2013-14) was more about the public and media liking him as an artist (even though I think the 2013-14 production era contained some of his best solo productions ever!).

And during that 2013-14 time it sounded like he was compromising - he made multiple songs with Get Lucky guitars and disco drums. Which sort of ties into what I was saying about once you get success and/or money - there’s a pressure to change and please people.

I bet if Get Lucky was a drum and bass song and was a hit, then P would have made 20 drum and bass records after.

No disrespect to P btw. He and chad are my favourites still. But his second coming was def at least partially motivated by money. Whereas the neps “prime” felt like the motivation was creativity

all these sounds like mad up rumors that none of you know of forsure. rather it be from the source itself or public info.

Kelis’s friend wrote the real reason on Kelis’s fan forum back in the day. I still don’t know if I trust it 100% but I’ve read the same story multiple times in different places. Tbh I hope what it was isn’t true. Thats why I won’t repeat it here.

You’re a Star Trak forum OG so I’m sure you know what I’m referring to as well.

  • RE: What makes an artist go into/out of their prime?

I always think about this b/c a lot of my favourite artists are making totally different music to when they first came out.

I have this idea, that before your first release you have your whole life to come up with ideas and concepts and you’re more rebellious and fearless with your ideas because there’s nothing to lose.

Then once someone reaches success they don’t have as much time to create and maybe they feel pressure to please people or to conform, because they don’t want to lose the money and success they’ve had.

It’s probably hard to gain perspective and understanding of why people like you as an artist - and if you have no clear vision of what you want to be then it can be difficult to keep your identity and sound. I know a lot of artists that struggle with that.

BUUUT also equally I think musicians are creative people by their very nature and they get bored doing the same thing and they’ll change sounds and style and move past their prime and won’t care b/c all that matters to them is creating.

Kelis is rite, its obvious she has had traumatic experience with P. P was a jerk during the early Neptunes Days (jerk meaning breaking the hearts of many females, including Kelis lol)

P is over that phase though, she is actually the one that should move on from still having bad feelings abt P if that makes sense..

I have no idea what happened (well I sort of heard rumours) but when I was working with The Fader on the “Kelis week” there were a lot of hoops to jump through . There were people from Star Trak that were scared to talk without Kelis’s written permission. So something definitely went down.

Buuuuut also why is she so suddenly against the Neptunes? She was photographed with P and Kenna in 2008-ish. And then she was at a movie premier with P last year, and even did a reddit AMA recently where she said she would work with Pharrell again one day.

    🤷🏽‍♂️
