Nahhh I disagree. The Neptunes were literally the most popular, most paid and most played musicians on the planet for a considerable run (2001-2003) and they did that by trying to be the opposite of what’s poppin, and not following trends. It was the individuality of their production that made them popular.
I think P and his team have lost sight of that. Even the 2013 disco-pop period did well because it was “different” at the time, so it cut through easily while everyone was still doing EDM.
Since he had that success he seems to be chasing it, and that never works out. People can see straight through it.
