When I first heard 1000 it didn't make sense because it was so different, it basically sounded 2 or 3 different beats mashed together. It wasn't until Shae's part came in that it all started to come together and make sense and I felt like I "got" it. I actually like it.
One of the things that irks me about a lot of modern music is that it's predictable, formulaic, and hardly does anything but loop about 4 bars with the same notes and chords.
P recognizes this and with NERD he's trying something unorthodox with beat switch ups, weird tempo changes, and generally just something different.
As an NERD/ fan who loves live instrumentation and still dreams of a proper ROOTS/NERD album or something in that vein this is absolutely not what I expected or hoped for but I feel like I get it and still appreciate it so far.
It's growing on me.
